The NeuroBlate® System by Monteris Medical enables MRI-Guided Neurosurgical Ablation. It is the only system that monitors ablation contours in 3-Dimensions and provides real time imaging to support a surgeon’s clinical decision matrix. The NeuroBlate System employs diode laser energy delivered via a gas-cooled fiber-optic probe, which allows safe targeting and selective ablation of soft tissue and lesions in the brain, including some that may have traditionally been deemed “inoperable”.
With the NeuroBlate System, surgeons have a new tool for treating diseased cells with lethal heat, while helping to preserve healthy tissue. In addition, because NeuroBlate’s therapy is minimally invasive, blood loss may be reduced during the procedure and the surgical opening can usually be closed with only a small suture.
The NeuroBlate System is a combination of hardware, software and disposable surgical devices used with an existing MRI scanner. The integration of these devices allows the neurosurgeon to precisely direct an MRI compatible, gas cooled, laser probe to a desired target. Once at the target, the neurosurgeon can administer laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) and monitor the thermal dose using real time MRI thermometry data. Only the NeuroBlate System provides a tool to thermally ablate brain lesions of various volume, shape or location.
The NeuroBlate System provides a new level of Controlled Access, Contoured Ablation, and Confirmed Margins.
The NeuroBlate System Laser Delivery platform is a small, CO2-cooled directional fiber optic catheter which allows minimally invasive entry into brain. The Laser energy is pulsed to deliver controlled thermal energy, while the MRI scanner measures heat deposited in the target tissue. Physicians are shown consecutive images of the thermal energy as it happens to support “real-time” decision making during the procedure. The NeuroBlate directional laser is the preferred tool for contoured ablation of targets while sparing adjacent healthy tissue. The NeuroBlate diffusing laser is designed to provide fast, volumetric ablation in a concentric zone of hyperthermia.
The Monteris Medical NeuroBlate® System (formerly known as the AutoLITT® System) has received United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for the following indications:
When interpreted by a trained physician, this system provides information that may be useful in the determination or assessment of thermal therapy. Patient management decisions should not be made solely on the basis of the NeuroBlate System analysis.
