Approximately 94,000 malignant brain tumors could benefit each year from new treatment technology without many of the limitations of currently available treatment approaches.

Of the 17,000 primary malignant tumors diagnosed each year in the United States, approximately 75% reoccur after the first intervention (surgery). In most cases a repeat surgery is not practical. Even with a repeat intervention, another reoccurrence is likely.

Of the 170,000 new metastatic tumor cases annually in the U.S., virtually all will develop new metastases after the first intervention (SRS). In many cases repeat radiosurgery or radiation is not practical because the patient has reached his/her toxic threshold. Surgery may not be practical because of location, number of tumors, patient frailty or other reasons.

In the U.S. approximately 47,000 of these reoccurrences could be candidates for a minimally-invasive new treatment procedure: 9,400 primary; 37,400 metastatic.

The numbers more than double to 94,000 when Europe and Canada are considered.
